To stay current with emerging trends within the finance industry, CFA Association Russia held at Mazars Russia a business breakfast that focused on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in finance. 

The association invited Christian Barte, an expert from the German consulting firm Horváth & Partners, to speak about the theme. The business breakfast turned out to be a success with over 50 guests attending the event.

Christian provided a comprehensive overview of AI and how it is impacting the finance profession. The presentation started with a bit of history and how all of it began in the 1950s and progressed all the way to a latest Google experiment on advanced machine-learning techniques.

This is only a small part of what AI can do. According to Christian, over the next decade there will be a great deal of development in the AI field. As computers are getting more powerful, more data becomes available and more companies are willing to integrate new technologies in their daily operations the importance of AI will continue to grow in the near future.

In the finance industry, Christian pointed out the top application areas, in which AI will soon become a key instrument. These areas are fraud detection, risk management, customer service, portfolio management, predictive analytics, trading, underwriting, and security.
